SafeNet Two-Factor Authentication

Today's business needs around access control are ever-evolving due to the following factors:

  1. The increasing use of cloud applications and mobile devices
  2. The growing volume and complexity of security threats
  3. The continued pressure to reduce costs

"Gartner predicts that, by 2017, more than 50% of enterprises will choose cloud-based services as the delivery option for new or refreshed user authentication implementations, up from less than 10% today." - Gartner Magic Quadrant for User Authentication 2012

It is the combination of these factors which means that finding an effective solution is both critical and challenging.

Two-factor authentication serves an important function here - by securing access to corporate networks, SaaS and cloud applications, protecting the identities of users, and ensuring that a user is who he claims to be.

SafeNet Authentication Service (SAS) is a cloud based 2 factor Authentication solution which can help you protect your online identify and the networks, applications and data you use from unauthorised access. It delivers fully-automated, highly secure authentication-as-a service with flexible token options that are tailored to the unique needs of your organisation and substantially reduces the total cost of operation.

Strong authentication is made easy through the flexibility and scalability of SafeNet Authentication Service's automated workflows, and vendor-agnostic token integrations and broad APIs. In addition, management capabilities and processes are fully automated and customizable-providing a seamless, and enhanced, user experience.

With no infrastructure required, SafeNet Authentication Service enables a quick migration to a multi-tier and multi-tenant cloud environment, and protects everything, from cloud-based and on premise applications, to networks, to users and devices.

Because strong authentication security requires multiple means of identification at login, it is widely recognized as the most secure software authentication method for authenticating access to data and applications.

How It Works

It replaces the often standard username and static password authentication method (which is vulnerable to phishing attacks, man in the middle attacks or even shoulder surfers) with a 2 factor solution consisting of...

  1. Something you have (Hardware or software token)
  2. Something you know (Password or PIN code)

These two elements combine to generate a Secure OTP (One Time Password) which mean that through the use of a user assigned token "a pseudo-random passcode" is generated valid for single use inside a very short timeframe of only "30-60 seconds". This significantly reduces the window of opportunity for malicious use by fraudsters or other criminal elements.

Even the risk of sophisticated ‘man in the middle' attacks are significantly reduced due to the passcode becoming invalid as soon as it has been transmitted to an independent known source.

SAS can integrate with any radius based service such as VPN SSL and firewalls, plus OWA, Citrix, Terminal services and many more end user applications. It allows you to choose between a variety of software and hardware tokens as well as offering simple a migration process from other 2 factor authentication solutions

Key Benefits

The key benefits of SAS in the cloud include:

  • No infrastructure or setup costs (All this is included in the cloud)
  • Large range token types available including Hardware, Software, Smartphone, Android, IOS, OSx Blackberry, Windows, Java based, USB, Credit Card, Grid, SMS, Blackberry, Key chain
  • Simple integration with any device that utilises Radius & SAML
  • Additional software agents are available for integration in to other applications such as Citrix, Outlook web access, IIS, terminal Services plus many more
  • 2 Factor Authentication can be deployed for your users in a matter of minutes
  • Administrative overhead is reduced by utilising automation rules for token provisioning
  • End user self-service portal for end user token queries
  • Easy migration from other 2 Factor Authentication Solutions such as RSA
  • SafeNet Tokens never expire unlike some competitors
