Sophisticated viruses can infect systems within seconds, often before traditional signature-based solutions can offer protection. While waiting for anti-virus companies to release a new virus signature, millions of computers may have already been infected, leaving businesses with no alternative but to shut down the corporate network.
The Window-of-Vulnerability is the time between a new vulnerability being published (or an attack launched) and a signature update or patch being delivered. The update then needs to be tested and installed on systems, causing further delay.
