IT Health Check for Government
Service Overview
The IT Health Check for Government service has been designed to assist you in the attainment and maintenance of the requirements outlined in the IT Health Check for GCSx connected systems baseline document.
Service Outcomes
The service falls into two areas:
- Network IT Health Check looking at the configuration and lockdown of system components
- Application layer IT Health Check examining the security of the application interfaces
This service ensures that you conform to or exceed the standard set out in the baseline specification, including the testing of:
- All components of firewall layers separating the organisations network for the GCSx
- All components of firewall layers and routing separating the organisations network from externally connected networks including the Internet
- Sample network devices connected to the GCSx
- Sample servers on the network connected to the GCSx
- The security of local wireless networks, where these impinge on the network connected to the GCSx
- Intrusion Detection Systems where implemented
The service identifies the following key requirements as set out in the IT Health Check:
- Demonstration that device configurations are documented and achieve the objective for the device
- Patching levels of the components are satisfactory
- Network boundary security devices meet their stated objectives of isolation and filtering
- External and internal configuration patch checks
- Examines the implemented access control model is in place and appropriate
- Examines configuration of VPNs and configuration of any authentication mechanisms for remote users
- Confirms that no unnecessary network services are present
- Includes an assessment of password strengths
How Are The Service Results Delivered?
Once the service is completed the results are delivered via:
A detailed report
Includes discovered vulnerabilities with associated fixes and an action plan.
A post service presentation
When required we can present the results to you and other members of your organisation. The presentation is tailored to the attendee’s requirements focusing on technical issues, management issues or a mix of the two.
Further discussion
The IT Health Check for Government service includes post assessment consultancy and advice. This ranges from assistance in fixing discovered vulnerabilities through to advising on further countermeasures.
