What is an endpoint?
All organisation workstations, laptops, kiosks and their conection points, endpoints can be violated by:
- Local, physical communications ports such as USB, Firewire, PCMCIA, printer, serial, and other laptop or desktop interfaces
- Wireless ports such as WiFi, Bluetooth and IrDA
- Removable and physical storage devices such as CD/DVD & Ipod’s
The issues connection devices can cause
Many connections can be made to a secure network endpoints via a variety of mediums, which can go completely undetected. Which means that files uploaded or downloaded by these devices are untraceable.
With a number of desktops and/or laptops, it is extremely difficult for administrators to control – short of inspecting every desktop and laptop across the organisation – IT and Security Managers had no way to gain a comprehensive, up-to-the minute visability of what was really attached to their endpoints.
